Atanas Shishkov - Flying Colours (2002)

Atanas Shishkov - Flying Colours (2002)A.G.S. Records

Atanas Shishkov is a Bulgarian instrumentalist who recorded his first demo "On The Threshold" in the year 1994 and then was titled "Master of Bulgarian Shred" by Guitar9 Records. His first full-length album was published eight years later by Atanas himself (guitars, bass guitar, keys, drum programming).

The stuff on the debut is nothing, but fusion down-tempo light guitar music with fluent licks and fingering, however without bizarre parts. Atanas' guitar playing is the main element of its musical framework, but equally important role is played by funky bass guitar that creates a warm climate alongside the guitar and keys. There is also a marriage of classical and fusion music in a track "Mozart-Howe Theme" that includes some references to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's and Greg Howe's works, however Atanas' version is subdued in comparison to the originals. If you like atmospheric and romantic guitar music, "Flying Colours" should capture your ears.
