Aforementioned nickname stands for an American female pianist who composed the music for film, theatre and radio. Her great virtue is ability of jumping from one music style to another. The debut CD "Instant Confidante" was inspired by her own experiences, so you should be prepared for a woman's musical autobiography.
"Instant Confidante" was recorded by 5-member line-up: kgmr (piano, rhodes piano, jaymar, vocals), Bob Read (drums, guitar, violin, mumbling and humming), David Walsh (bass), John Schurman (trumpet) and Jay Alvaro (drums on two tracks). Although there are three vocal tracks on the album, I can describe kgmr's style as progressive music at a snail's pace. It can be also classified as jazz and alternative kind of music in a sense. I think so, because trumpet is typical of the first genre, and melancholic mood is characteristic for the second one. On the other hand, it can be also considered bit experimental and even chill-out-like kind of music. I encountered a feeling of deja vu when first heard "Two Minutes In The Closet" that is strongly influenced by Witold Lutoslawski's music. He was one of the greatest Polish contemporary composers who passed away in the year 1994. I would be curious of his opinion on kgmr's hypnotized composition written under the influence of his works. Unfortunately, I will not get to know it, however it's a nice surprise for me as a Pole. Moreover, I am absolutely sure that "Instant Confidante" will appeal to listeners who like slow, quiet, drowsy, sluggish, picturesque, healing, easy listening, weird, unconventional and finally freaky music. If you like Angelo Badalamenti's calm output, you will fall in love with this stuff. It is a perfect remedy for people tired with the tempo of today's world.
