Barbara Lin is a pipa soloist and graduate of Beijing Central Music College. The pipa is a Chinese instrument chiefly being used by new age artists. Barbara's teacher was Shi-cheng Lin - a great virtuoso of this instrument.
Mrs. Lin, as a great zither virtuosa, makes many references to the Chinese culture in her music, e.g. to the poetry of Zhang Rou-Shi and Chow Ming who was the last emperor of Song Dynasty. The second track called "Mount Backer" is an example of so-called Hakka Chinese Music which has been playing by Chinese musicians who emigrated to Taiwan. Barbara Lin produces numerous piercing, yet enjoyable tones which act like a sonic acupuncture. Her music is tranquillizing and healing in a sense. It is filled with spiritual and peaceful values. A magical atmosphere is created by a magic sound of the zither. That folk instrument utters a bright and cheerful melodies.
Listening to Barbara Lin's "The Lotus" is like refreshing of a tired body and spiritual purification in one. Her compositions are as quiet as Kitaro's, so it's especially meant for relaxing. Moreover, every tone played by Barbara has a positive impact on our mood and attitude towards the world. It brings us closer to the nature what should be considered the best alternative for the present metropolitan societies living in the embracement of rising skyscrapers. "The Lotus" is a wonderful musical tale!
